Some Questions You Might Have

Read some frequently asked questions and answers below to help on your

decision to invest in a Whole House Fan for your home.

How does it work?

The hot air gets trapped in your attic and acts like a large heated blanket that in turn heats up the air inside your home. The Whole House Fan takes the warm air from every part of your home and replaces it with the cooler outside air. It does this by pulling in the cooler outside air through one or two open windows. The warm air is pulled out of your home and is pushed out the attic vents – cooling your attic as well as your living area.

How long does a Whole House Fan take to cool down my home?

The air in your home will be exchanged approximately every 5 minutes by 6 steel aerodynamic, individually balanced blades that are designed to remove the hot air quickly and quietly. Just flip the switch on for 30 to 60 minutes at the beginning and end of each day. This will enable you to run your air conditioning less and may even eliminate use all together. Enjoy comfortable living for less!

Does it matter whether or not I have Air Conditioning?

If you have air conditioning prepare to see 40-100% savings!*
If you don’t have air conditioning or don’t like air conditioning, according to SDG&E and our happy customers, this is an excellent alternative!

Is the Whole House Fan noisy?

Our fan is designed exclusively for us and to our standards. Unlike fans sold in the hardware stores that have only 4 aluminum blades and sound like an old World War II plane. Our Whole House Fan has 6 steel aerodynamic, individually balanced blades. It runs quietly enough to sleep with it on. Many of our happy customers leave it running all night and enjoy the quiet, cool “breeze” that it generates.

How much does it cost to operate?

Our Whole House Fan is very energy efficient – It can run for 12 hours a night for the same cost as your porch light (approximately 35¢ per night**)! Most of our customers spend an average of only 85¢ a day** to operate our Whole House Fan. (This is based on running it for 30-60 minutes in the morning, evening and all night on low when the outside temperature cools down). By comparison it costs an average of 85¢ to run your air conditioner for only 45 minutes. SMUD says that by properly using a Whole House Fan, many people can reduce their air conditioning bill by as much as half!

Does it require maintenance?
